Born in Yakima, Washington on September 17, 1930, he was an only child to his parents. His family owned and worked on farms and he grew up living that life only.
His professional career started when he started working as a stock clerk for a department store. It was around this time that a friend of his invited him to lecture given by a successful entrepreneur Joan Earl Shoaff.
