Martin Luther King Quotes: Martin Luther King Junior is one of the most widely known personalities. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929, he was not only an American baptist Minister but also a humanitarian that led the African- American Civil Rights movement. He is respected for his nonviolent disobedience in civil rights movements. He was the middle child with one elder sister and one younger brother. His mother was a musician and that was one of the reasons he liked singing and music.

He has mentioned several times that his father whipped him till the age of 15 and his father always said that he would make something of him, even if he had to beat him to death. As a child, he befriended a white boy whose father was a businessman. Though they studied in different schools they were still friends but after the other kid’s father told them not to play together king lost his friend and suffered from depression.

Overcoming all of the hardships of life he went on to become one of the most inspirational leaders in history. He became a civil rights activist early in his life. Since he was an influential public speaker he led many movements against racial inequality and one of the most significant is the nonviolent disobedience civil rights movement. His beliefs were the reason why he believed that violence was not the answer and that peaceful movements are enough to fight for one’s rights. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for fighting against racial inequality without any violence.

He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in a motel in Memphis. He was shot when he was standing on the second-floor balcony of the motel. The bullet entered through his cheek, smashed his jawbone, and then traveled down his spinal column and finally got stuck in his shoulder.
